Applying as an International Applicant

International applicants without an SSN can still apply through Alcove with additional verification steps.

If you are a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or otherwise have a valid SSN, you must apply using your SSN and complete the TransUnion screening process. Selecting the international applicant option when you have an SSN may result in your application being rejected or your account being restricted.

If you selected the wrong option or need assistance updating your application, please contact us at apply@alcoverooms.com.

To begin, submit an application for your selected listing on Alcove. During the screening section, you will be asked whether you have a U.S. SSN or do not have an SSN.

If you select No SSN, you will be directed to the international applicant verification page.

Required Documentation

International applicants will be asked to upload documentation in the following sections:

1. Passport

Upload a clear image of your passport photo page. Please ensure the document is legible and not cropped - See bottom of this FAQ for upload guidelines

2. U.S. Visa or Immigration Documents

Upload your current visa and any relevant supporting documents, such as:

  • Most recent I-94 record

  • Supporting authorization letters from USCIS

  • Visa expiration dates

Incomplete or missing documents may delay the review of your application.

3. School / Student Documentation (if applicable)

If you are applying on a student visa, please upload documentation from your school confirming your enrollment or student status.

Income & Employment Verification

In the next section of the application, you will provide income and employment information.

Because international applicants typically do not have U.S. credit history, landlords may place greater emphasis on income verification and employment documentation. We recommend providing as much detail as possible to help support your application.

Make sure your passport scan includes clear, visible margins around the entire page. Do not upload a scan that is cropped, has no margins, or cuts off any part of the information.

12214-INZ_Passport-Reflection-Example-664x250__ResizedImageWzYwMCwyMjZd

Your passport scan should be free of glare or light reflections. If you are using your phone or a camera, turn off the flash and take the photo in a bright, evenly lit room instead.

If you are taking a photo of your passport with your phone or a camera, make sure your fingers and thumb are completely out of the frame. To keep the passport flat, use a heavy object such as a book, but ensure it does not cover or block any information on the passport page.
