How Reviews Work
What Alcove roommates can share, what owners can feature, and what stays private.
Tenant reviews on Alcove are written by renters who actually lived in the home. They help future roommates know what to expect and give owners feedback on what's working and what isn't.
Here's how the process works:
When tenants can write a review
Tenants get an email 30 days before their lease ends inviting them to write a review. They have until their lease end date to submit it. Once the lease ends and the deposit return window opens, the review window closes.
If a tenant ends their lease early, they get the invite once the termination date is finalized, which may be less than 30 days out. They still have until their lease end date to submit.
For leases that ended on or before May 24, 2026, owners can manually invite past tenants to leave a review through May 2027.
What a review includes
Every review has three parts:
- Public review: What the tenant writes about their experience on the property, and on the landlord. Only visible on the listing if the owner chooses to feature it.
- Lease context: Bedroom, lease start date, and lease length. Added automatically.
- Private feedback: Only visible to the owner. Useful for flagging things like maintenance issues or shared-space concerns that shouldn't be shared publicly.

What's shown publicly
Only first name, the bedroom rented, and lease length are shown alongside a featured review. Last name, full address, email, phone number, and any other contact info are never shown publicly.
How reviews end up on a listing
Public reviews are not published automatically. Owners choose which reviews to feature on their listing. If a review isn't featured, it stays internal and isn't visible to applicants or other tenants. Private feedback is never made public.
If a tenant renews or switches rooms, they can submit a new review when their next lease ends. Only the most recent review from a given tenant can be featured on the listing, so a new review replaces the old one if the owner chooses to feature it.
Editing and removing reviews
Once submitted, reviews can't be edited or removed. Tenants should take a minute to review what they've written before submitting.
Alcove doesn't currently support public replies to reviews. If an owner or tenant wants to address something directly, they can message each other through their usual communication channel.
