On Alcove, you get to know & meet who you'll live with before you move in.
At Alcove, you get to know who you'll live with before you move in. Here's how it works at each step:
Every housemate goes through the same process:
Every room in an Alcove home must be leased through Alcove. So every housemate goes through the same steps you will, and everyone in the home meets the same safety standard:
- Screening: state, federal, and local background checks through TransUnion.
- Employment and income verification: submitted as part of the Alcove application
- Landlord reference check: completed automatically by Alcove. Learn how automated rental references work.
- Housemate feedback: current housemates are notified about each applicant and can share feedback with the landlord before approval. Learn how housemate feedback works.
- Housemate introductions and bios: available to you once you've applied and been approved
Because of the entire leasing process on Alcove, every home is a 100% verified community.
Preview housemates before you apply
Each listing has a Current Housemates section. due to safety, we can't sharing anyone's identifiable details, it shows each current housemate's:
- Gender and age range (for example, "Female, in her 20s")
- Occupation type
- Verification badges: Income Verified, Background Check, and Identity Verified
- Interests and hobbies
Meet roommates on your tour
Your housemates are always notified ahead of tours, and may be home during the shift, so you might get to connect in person. If they aren't, you can connect with them once you're approved.
After you're approved: full profiles unlock
Once you've applied, passed the background check, and been approved, you'll see your housemates' full profiles:
- Names and photos
- Bios
- Contact information (email and phone number)
You can find all of this in your Alcove portal. Feel free to reach out, introduce yourself, and find a time to connect.
Your housemate introduction email
About 3 days before your move-in date, Alcove sends an introduction email with the subject line "Please Welcome Your New Housemate!" It goes to your current housemates, and you're cc'd. It includes your name and move-in date, so everyone knows you're coming and can welcome you.
