Housemate Conflicts on Alcove

When housemates disagree, Alcove's Tenant Support team steps in to help resolve it. We set shared-living expectations upfront and mediate interpersonal issues that may arise.

Every tenant who signs an Alcove lease agreement also agrees to abide by the Roommate Agreement, as well as Alcove's Terms & Policies, which establish the minimum expectations for respectful shared living. These guidelines cover common areas of co-living, including cleanliness, shared spaces, guests, noise, communication, and respect for fellow housemates, to help create a positive living environment for everyone.

In addition to these baseline expectations, Alcove encourages all housemates to work together to establish mutually agreed-upon house rules that address day-to-day household preferences and help prevent common interpersonal disputes. Our recommended Shared Living House Rules can be found on our FAQ page here.

Conflict Resolution Support

Most housemate disagreements involve differences in personal preferences rather than lease violations. When housemate interpersonal disputes arise and housemates are unable to come to a resolution amongst themselves, Alcove's Tenant Support team provides guidance and conflict resolution strategies that encourage respectful communication and collaboration between housemates.

Our goal is to help tenants resolve issues early while reinforcing the expectations outlined in the Roommate Agreement (Visit our Housemate Conflict Resolution guide).

Lease Violations vs. Personal Disputes

Housemate disagreements do not typically require landlord involvement. Alcove differentiates between general interpersonal conflicts and potential lease violations. While our team can offer resources and guidance to help resolve personal disputes, any reported behavior that may violate the lease agreement or community policies is formally documented and reviewed through our standard lease violation process.
