Bedroom Modifications and Alterations
Want to make your bedroom feel more like your own? Before painting, mounting items, or making other changes to your room, it’s important to get approval from the landlord first.
What changes require landlord approval?
Landlord approval is required for any modification or alteration to the property (page 18 of the lease), including:
- Painting or marking walls
- Driving nails or screws into walls or other surfaces
- Mounting TVs, shelves, mirrors, or other items
- Installing or changing fixtures or hardware
- Altering floors, windows, cabinets, doors, or woodwork
- Making any other addition or improvement to the room or home
If you're unsure whether a change requires approval, submit a request before making it.
How do I request approval?
Submit a Bedroom Modifications & Alterations ticket through the Alcove Support Portal:
Include a description of the change you'd like to make. Do not begin any work until you have received written approval from the landlord. Submitting a request does not mean it has been approved.
What else should I know?
Approved alterations are completed at the tenant's expense unless otherwise agreed to in writing. The landlord may also specify the materials, contractors, timing, or method used to complete the work.
Alterations or improvements may become part of the property and remain after your tenancy ends. Any unauthorized alterations may be considered a lease violation, and you may be responsible for restoring or repairing the property.
When in doubt, ask first. Getting approval before making a change can help prevent unexpected charges or issues at move-out.
