This is because Alcove uses MySmartMove / TransUnion as our tenant screening service. Since you initiate the release of your own data, the resulting inquiry is considered a “soft inquiry,” which does not impact your credit score!
On the other hand, some home owners will use a landlord initiated credit check on a rental applicant, which results in a “hard inquiry” on the applicant’s credit report and can negatively impact his or her overall score depending on other variables. (This is similar to the process involved when a consumer applies for a loan or a credit card). Alcove does not use this method of credit check.
