Troubleshooting Your Bedroom Lock
Battery Malfunctions
This is typically indicated by any of the following:
-
Dim or Weak Keypad Lights: The keypad lights may appear dimmer or respond sluggishly when buttons are pressed.
-
Audible Beeping: The lock may emit a series of beeps to signal low battery.
-
Failure to Fully Unlock: The lock might flash green but fail to disengage due to insufficient power.
-
Complete Power Loss: If the lock is unresponsive with no lights or sounds, the batteries are likely dead.
If any of these occur, complete the following steps to resolve:
- If the door is still able to open, replace the batteries immediately. 4 AAA batteries are needed for the lock.
- To change batteries, loosen the screws on the cover of the inside knob ( interior bedroom side). This exposes the battery box. Remove the battery box carefully, as the battery box is connected to the power cable which can be damaged. Replace the batteries and return the battery box to the correct position. Fasten screws on the rear plate to reinstall and complete the replacement.
- If the batteries have died, use the emergency power pack to open your bedroom door and immediately replace the dead batteries
The emergency power pack can be located in one of the following locations in your home:
- Kitchen cabinets or pantry
- Hallway closest
Insert the Emergency power pack into the jack on the bottom of the keyless bedroom lock (See 'P' indicated in the diagram below). This will allow enough power to open the bedroom door with your code, and then replace the batteries. Emergency power packs should be returned to their original location after use.
If you can't find the emergency power packs, check your Access & Resident Info on your MyAlcove Portal. If the emergency power packs are not located in the home, these can typically be bought at your local shopping center (Walmart, etc). Known as power banks or portable chargers, ensure that one is purchased with a DC barrel port for use. Below is an image of the emergency power pack and a how to video on how to use it.
How to use the emergency power back for the bedroom lock
When the Lock Flashes Green but Fails to Operate
- Verification of Code: The green light may flash even with an incorrect code due to temporary memory confusion.
- Re-enter the code slowly and carefully.
- Ensure no additional button is pressed accidentally.
- Low Battery: A green light may indicate the keypad is functional, but insufficient power may prevent the lock from disengaging. See the instructions above on how to troubleshoot battery malfunctions
- Physical Jamming: Inspect the lock mechanism for:
- Check if the lock bolt is misaligned or stuck.
- Lubricate the lock bolt and mechanism using a silicone-based lubricant.
- Manually try to lock and unlock using the key or backup.
- Environmental Issues: The lock may malfunction in very cold or hot weather.
- Warm the lock gently if it’s cold (avoid using open flames).
- Ensure it’s not exposed to direct sunlight for long durations.
If none of the above troubleshooting steps work, a locksmith will be needed to assist with the bedroom lock. A list of non affiliated locksmiths can be found here.
